Fire Fly Crossings

Fire Flies

…Smores…Singing Around the Campfire…Fishing…Building Sandcastles…Catching Fireflies…What’s you’re favorite childhood summer memory?

Children fighting pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses often miss out on these wonderful experiences. Through no fault of their own, in addition to the physical battles they endure, the illnesses extract both an emotional and financial toll on already burdened families. Although researchers are making great strides in understanding and conquering these dreaded diseases, there are still many children and families out there facing these diagnoses and fighting these battles on a daily basis.

Firefly Crossings seeks to provide opportunities to savor summer and enjoy the simple pleasures so many of us take for granted. Our Gifts of Time program will provide certificates for stays at local and regional resorts. A short stay will not only provide these families with the opportunity for respite and relaxation, but will help them create sustaining memories of quality family time that will last a lifetime … and beyond.

Our Story

Sometimes life's greatest trials can bring life's greatest blessings. And so it was when our children and grandchildren, Tori and Frankie were diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Each faced a different battle. Tori was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer, when she was only twenty months old. Frankie was born with congenital heart disorders. Both lost their battles early, just twenty months apart. Yet somehow, throughout these struggles, thanks to the loving kindness and support of friends and strangers alike, we were able to find joy in each day. Each challenge gave us new purpose and each day brought us new gratitude. Tori lost her battle in 2007, less than a month before her third birthday, yet her light shines on. Firefly Crossings was established in her honor as a way to brighten the days of families facing pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Frankie lost his battle only recently, not yet three months old. But his light too, shines strong and bright, and we will continue to strive to brighten the days of families facing similar crises, with loving gratitude for each day we were blessed with.
